Also, the very Sweet, Dedicated & Special Ladies from the Flowery Branch Homemakers Club (88 years and still going strong) will be coming out to the Flowery Branch Farmers Market! They have once again made some of their most delicious cakes to purchase and will be raffling tickets, for a chance to WIN a Beautiful Handmade Quilt! (*All of the proceeds will be going to Local Charities in the Community.)
*HISTORY* of The: “Flowery Branch Homemakers’ Club” ~ Formed in 1929, Flowery Branch Homemakers’ Club is a member of the Georgia Homemakers’ Council. In the very early days, they were called “Tomatoes Clubs” because they were taught how to can tomatoes, and later, named “Home Demonstration Clubs”. Home Demonstration Agents from the County Extension Service traveled to the individual clubs in rural communities providing programs at their monthly meetings. The name was then changed to Homemakers Clubs.
In 1969, the State no longer provided program speakers and the responsibility became that of each individual Club. Clubs began dropping out of the program and today, the Flowery Branch Homemakers’ Club remains the only active club out of the original 26 clubs in Hall County. In the beginning, programs were centered mostly around food and sewing skills. Today’s programs include many topics such as Health, Community, Family, and Recycling.
Throughout the years, several of our members have received the Homemaker of the Year award and numerous Prize Ribbons for handmade art presented at the Annual Georgia Homemakers Council Conference. Four of our members have received 50-year pins. Members of the Flowery Branch club raise funds by hosting 2 Cake Sales each year; one near Easter, and the other, in the fall.
Proceeds from these 2 sales have helped support local organizations including The Flowery Branch Depot, Coats for Kids, Eagle Ranch, Gateway House, My Sister’s Place, Tiny Stitches, The Pilot Club, The Challenged Child, The Burn Foundation, The Salvation Army, Gainesville Care Center, Heifer Foundation, Department of Veteran Affairs, and local Nursing Homes. Also, proceeds from the sale of a Cook Book went to help the various organizations that we support. Meetings are held monthly and begin with the pledge of the flag, devotion, and prayer. The door is open and if you would like to become a member, or purchase additional cookbooks, please contact any member.
