Boating Safety Week is Coming!
National Boating Safety Week May 20th – 26th
Get ready for boating season during National Boating Safety Week!
This is the perfect time to make sure you’re ready for another season on the water. Below are some ideas of how you can spend boating safety week learning and preparing for a safe summer!
Stay tuned for events and tips from the LLA during Boating Safety Week!
  1. Take a Boating Safety Course – Learn more about courses offered around Lake Lanier on the LLA Website Here.
  2. Complete a Vessel Safety Check with the Coast Guard – Did you know the US Coast Guard Aux. at Lake Lanier offers Vessel Safety checks? It includes reviewing on-board safety supplies and discussing preventative measures/helpful information should an emergency occur. Learn More!
  3. Inspect Life Jackets for Use – Now is the perfect time to review your life jackets for rips or tears, as these can impact there efficiency. It’s also a good idea to review the types and sizes you have for your upcoming activities and stock up on any you need before the summer fun begins.
  4. Educate the Whole Family – Boating Safety tips aren’t just for the Captain, they are for everyone! It’s never too early to share education with your tiny boaters – teach them young. Bonus points if you share with your guests too.
  5. Review the Rules of the Road – The water is a highway without lanes or painted lines, that’s why it’s important to know which way to go and who has the right of way. LLA also recommends reviewing signage / hazard markers on the lake to help with navigation.

One of the best ways to become a better boater is by enrolling in a Boating Safety Course. There are courses available for all skill levels. Many are available online through BoatUS. Additionally, two organizations offer Boating Safety Courses on Lake Lanier – The US Coast Guard Auxiliary as well as America’s Boating Club.
