The Civil War Heartland Leaders Trail combines both the drama of Civil War battle and the real lives of the leaders and common people who lived during this turbulent period of our nation’s history. With the exception of Virginia, no state witnessed more military action than Georgia.

University of Georgia archivisit Linda Aaron, with Mary Johnson and Sindney Fortson have preserved more than 100 Civil War letters that were donated by Johnson and Fortson.
