A Holly, Jolly, Busy Weekend Ahead

We’re ringing in the holidays with a jam packed weekend of fun events and activities all across the lake! Here are some of our favorites:

Saturday, December 10th

Lake Lanier Parade of Boats

Join the parade, and help raise money for Toys for Tots and the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes. Houseboats, pontoons, ski boats, sailboats and more will be festooned with twinkling lights and Christmas decor of all kinds. Several fleets of boats (over 70 total) will trek from Lake Lanier’s marinas to Sunset Cove at Lanier Islands where they will be staged at the docks for viewing. Spectators can view the parade from any of the lake’s marinas or from Sunset Cove at Lanier Islands (admission is included in Magical Nights of Lights car pass.) Raffle tickets for a brand new 2017 Audi Convertible are being sold at this event with proceeds going to charity.

Seussified Christmas Carol
presented by Fifth Row Center

Whether you’re 3 or 103, you’ll enjoy this presentation of Dickens’ most beloved Christmas story in wacky rhymed couplets. With zoot fruited juices and binka bird geese, from Bed-Headed Fred to Timmy Loo Hoo, this tale of glorious holiday cheer is similar to something Dr. Seuss might have come up with — if he ever had his way with the story…

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party
at Sweet Acres Winery

Dig those lovely Christmas sweaters out of your closet, start shopping, or get to sewing and bejeweling in preparation for our only winery’s super fun Ugly Christmas Sweater Party! The talented Alan Kendall will be at Sweet Acres Winery near Lula from 2-5pm to serenade you with Christmas songs by the fire. Come sing along with your favorite carols! Hot adult beverages. Lots of fun. Santa will even be there 12-4 to celebrate with us! Bring your favorite board game and enjoy some quality time with your family and friends.

Live Nativity at Lanier Islands

Looking for a spot that celebrates the true meaning of the season? Be sure to see the dramatic interpretation of the Christmas story during the Live Nativity at Lanier Islands during the Magical Nights of Lights. Thanks to a team of talented volunteers from Cross Pointe Church, the Live Nativity will be presented nightly from November 18 – December 23 (excluding Thanksgiving Day). Stop by Grand Hall located along the Magical Lights route for shows presented every half hour from 7:00 – 10:00pm.

Frequency: Daily shows (November 18th – December 24th)
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (seven shows every night)

Frontier Christmas

Sunday is Family Day at Northeast Georgia History Center and they will be celebrating the holiday with a hands on Christmas from the frontier days. Learn how early settlers celebrated the holidays, shared their bounty with others and created home spun gifts for their friends and families. Refresh yourself with hot cider, hot cocoa and cookies while making an ornament for your tree and listening to Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Event hours – 1 to 3pm
Admission is FREE

It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

Bring back the good ole days when the family gathered around the radio to listen to holiday specials and concerts sure to set the mood for a Merry Christmas. This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.
