Gainesville
The Arts Council kicks off its annual summer Movies on the Green series with the blockbuster hit “Avatar.” Showing on the grass behind the Smithgall Arts Center in downtown Gainesville, the film, which starts at dusk, will be shown on a 35-foot inflatable screen on the lawn. Gates open at 7:30, and there will be games and other kid-friendly activities prior to the start of the movie. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children/students and free for Arts Council members. Concessions will be available for purchase. Next month, the film series will present “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” on July 1. In case of rain, either film’s rain date is Aug. 5; otherwise, a third movie may be shown on that date.
