OLYMPIC SWIMMERS MAKE WAVES TO FIGHT CANCER DURING SWIM ACROSS AMERICA EVENT AT LANIER ISLANDS

On Saturday, September 17, a number of Olympic greats will join together to “make waves to fight cancer” during a Swim Across America event at Lanier Islands. Included among them will be:

  • Two-time Olympian, six-time Olympic medalist, and 16-time World Championship medalist, Missy Franklin
  • Four-time Olympian and Gold Medalist Heather Petri
  • 2000 Olympian Kristy Kowal
  • 1984 Olympian and Gold Medalist Steve Lundquist

These superstars of the swimming pool will be on hand from 8 to 9 a.m. to sign autographs at the Islands’ Sunset Cove. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to cheer on their favorite individual swimmers or local teams in the Atlanta Open Water Swim, which includes 1 mile and 5K course options, as well as a 4 X ½ mile relay.  In addition to autographs and swim competition, there will be entertainment, music, awards presentation, patient stories, and family friendly activities, including access to Lanier Islands’ Sunset Cove and half-mile stretch of white sandy beach.

But before the big event, swim enthusiasts have a rare opportunity to enjoy an intimate experience to swim and dine with Missy and these other swimming greats. There are a handful of coveted spots for a  VIP Olympic Gold Experience for individuals who register and donate or raise at least $2500 to Swim Across America.  Just think, YOU could learn from the world’s best swimmers during a 2-hour Open Water Swim Clinic for all ages and levels on Friday, September 16.  And that’s not all. VIPs will attend an exclusive dinner with these swimming champions, enjoy overnight accommodations at Lanier Islands’ Legacy Lodge, receive Swim Across America swag such as towels, t-shirts, long-sleeve hoodie, swim caps and much more.  To reserve your VIP spot for this once in a lifetime opportunity, register and raise $2500 by September 14 at Swim Across America Atlanta. A portion of the proceeds from this event benefit the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
