Find Yourself Here…Inn at Magnolia Oaks

Whether you are into wines, outdoors or quaint towns, there are many reasons to spend time in northeast Georgia and another reason is the Inn at Magnolia Oaks. Located in Clermont, innkeeper Terry Dawson says him and his wife, Marie, have always liked the area and chose it because of its central location. It’s close enough to many of the activities in the area, but still far away for that feel of a secluded retreat.

The home is modeled after Marie’s grandparents’ homeplace in Mississippi. Built in five years, it wasn’t originally designed to be a bed and breakfast. As the Dawsons entered retirement, running a bed and breakfast was the direction they wanted to go in.

“We’ve enjoyed staying at many bed and breakfasts throughout the years, and thought we would enjoy running one,” he recalls. “So, we decided to go forward with it.”The property itself exudes many exterior southern features like white columns and a big wrap-around porch that beckons you to “sit a spell” and relax. When it comes to the interior of the inn, no detail has been overlooked. Cozy up in the library (with or without a book), complete with a fireplace; or enjoy tea in the ladies’ parlor.
flowers and staircaseThe four suites, each name after one set of the Dawson’s grandparents, are as individual as the guests staying in them, but have one thing in common: comfort. As the largest, the Goodwin-Aldridge Room includes a queen bed and a private sitting area. The Granberry-Hill Room offers a king bed with a six-foot soaking tub and shower. While theDawson-Goss Room also has a six-foot soaking tub and shower, the bed is a queen canopy bed. The Burgess-Parker Room displays a mahogany spool wheel bed and sitting alcove. All of the suites wrap around a central hall and guest lounge, which is stocked with complimentary snacks and drinks. With the many features and amenities each offer, it’s understandable if you never want to leave your room.

And then there are the personal touches. It all begins at breakfast. Each morning your favorite beverage is waiting for your outside your door. Once you are ready to go, you can enjoy breakfast (a three-course meal that include desserts, says Dawson) in the formal dining room, a table for two in the parlor or on the front porch. And be sure to make it back to the inn for the 5:30 p.m. social, a great way to start the eveningRegardless of if it’s an overnight stay or a weekend visit, Dawson stresses as innkeepers their goal is make sure your needs are taken care of in a way that exceeds your expectations.“We want everyone to have a good time while here, and leave relaxed and happy.”
