Lanier Islands Gives a Sneak Peek Inside its Upcoming Wine and Beer & BBQ Cruises

Read about thier wildly popular Legacy Cruise Series, Lanier Islands gives its guests a unique opportunity to raise a glass and watch the world sail past for a few glorious hours. The next exciting event on the docket is a Wine Cruise slated for Sunday, August 7 when the Island Princess luxury excursion yacht hoists its anchor from Harbor Landing at 2 p.m. for a cruise around the open waters of Lake Lanier – which offers 38,000 surface acres just waiting to be explored.

Boarding guests are met with a glass of sparkling water to help cleanse the palate and signal to them that they are in for an extraordinary experience. After leaving the dock, they enjoy a three-hour cruise, lakeside breezes, stunning views, live entertainment and a five-course wine and tapas pairing. Each wine selection – ranging from a series of reds, whites, and roses – is painstakingly paired with a sequence of small plates designed by the Islands’ talented culinary team. All courses are served tableside, but in between servings, guests are encouraged to move about the upper and lower decks of the yacht to enjoy the undeniable beauty of a lake that draws millions of visitors each year. After the fifth and final course – which ends the cruise on a sweet note by pairing a wine with dessert – the Island Princess docks back at Harbor Landing around 5 p.m., at which time Wine Cruise participants can purchase their favorite wine selections*. A representative from United Distributors is on hand throughout the cruise and at the dock to answer any questions . For those who wish to enhance their experience further, the Islands invites them to enjoy dinner at Sidney’s Restaurant inside Legacy Lodge.

Of course, for those who prefer suds over Syrahs, the Islands also plays host to a Beer & BBQ Cruise – the next of which sets sail on Sunday, August 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. While a slightly more casual affair, this cruise similarly features five selections that are carefully chosen to enhance the menu with which they are paired. Local and regional craft beers are served alongside a buffet that features everything from barbecue chicken to pulled pork – all regionally-inspired recipes augmented by a variety of sweet to spicy to vinegar-based sauces. Once back at the dock, guests are welcome to purchase their favorite craft beer selections*.

“Our Legacy Cruise Series gives participants a ‘taste’ of lake life at its very best,” says Rob Wood, Director of Banquets for Lanier Islands and architect for the Legacy Cruise Series. “They will be treated to a relaxing Sunday afternoon spent out on a yacht, where they can leave their concerns at the dock for a few hours to enjoy great food, excellent wines or local beers, and superlative views of the South’s Great Lake. Our most avid wine and beer buffs also truly appreciate the opportunity to rub elbows and have a lively discussion with industry insiders. Even better, it’s just a really great twist on the traditional date night or time spent making memories with friends.”

Another popular addition to Lanier Islands’ Legacy Cruise Series is the Cigar & Scotch Cruise, which will mark the final excursion of the 2016 season on Sunday, October 2. But before the season comes to an end, guests can also enjoy future Wine Cruises onSunday, September 4 and Sunday, September 18.
